  • Uncle Samurai says: Hella is derived from the two words "hell of" as in: hell of a thing, hell of a long way, that's a hell of a good idea etc... It was shortened in The East Bay California (across from SF) in the 80's by a bunch of heshers and valley girls into the word HELLA. For example: "That is a hell of a good idea" became "That's Hella good..."
