Raku is a firing technique for ceramics from an old Japanese tradition. The western version includes a "reduction chamber" to create stunning effects with glazes by drawing out oxygen from the molten glazes. The red-hot piece is removed from the kiln with tongs when the kiln reaches close to 1,900 degrees F and is transferred to the reduction chamber filled with flammable materials.
